What is the G7, and why is it relevant to business?
The Group of Seven (G7) is a forum of seven highly industrialised economies - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. It aims to coordinate finance, economics, employment, security, trade policy and many other areas.
How is the IOE involved with the G7?
The IOE has been engaged in the G7 employment and education work stream for many years. It engages with the G7 labour ministers and collaborates with others in addressing G7 leaders. The IOE also coordinates the engagement with the trade unions in the G7 process.
How does the IOE’s work with the G7 advance the agenda for business?
The IOE works to fully harness the opportunities the collaboration of G7 countries offer to promote jobs, growth and wealth creation and sustainable development. Key priorities of the IOE are fostering enabling environments for business; promoting entrepreneurship and innovation; enabling diverse forms of employment; strengthening gender employment; fostering skills and lifelong learning; and facilitating labour migration in line with labour market needs. As the representative international employers’ organisation, the IOE also gives non-G7 business a voice in the process, thereby ensuring greater inclusivity of the G7.
